Mastering time management is an important piece of advice found throughout Shaka Maverick. It’s an important skill to develop and keep with you. Without it, you’ll be overwhelmed and disillusioned at what you actually have to accomplish. Without a general concept of time, you’ll foolishly waste it on things that don’t matter.
I had to master this skill quick during my first semester in college. College is tough as it is already, but trying to succeed in it while being a student athlete is a lot to ask for. Not to mention, I had plans to get a part time job so I could support myself instead of asking my Mom for money every other week. A vital way to accomplish your priorities is to make a to-do list every single day, and to follow through with what you write down so you can complete it- fully.
“This is a load of crap Jordan- give me some actual advice on how to manage my time.”
It’s a very simple thing to do and there’s no excuse for you not to make a to do list every single day. You probably have your smart phone right now sitting in your pocket. All you have to do is open up the “notes” tab on your device and there you go. No need to walk around with a notebook and pen, you can plan out your days in advance instead of checking your Snapchat stories.
I didn’t make to do lists throughout high school. As a result, I was late to everything, and I forgot some important priorities. We’ve all been in that situation where someone asks if you did something today and then everything rushes in your head screaming “OH MY GOD, HOW COULD I FORGET?” We get distracted throughout the day, and it’s easy to forget what someone told us to do a couple of days ago. As I’m writing this right now, I just checked my to do list on my phone and realized that I’m almost at the deadline for when I need to take care of some important forms for college.
Sample To Do List:
Remember this doesn’t have to be complicated. Just write down what you have to do for the day- it’s simple but it helps a lot.
Think about it like this, have you ever heard a cool song on the radio or when you’re out with your friends? You want to know the name of the song so you can search it up and possibly download it when you get back home. All you have to do is just take out your iPhone and write it down on notes. That way, when you’re bored and you run into that note again, you’ll quickly remember and be glad that you did.
This is a basic principal that will simply your life and get yourself organized.
All you have to do is make one to do list. Otherwise, you’ll make a bunch of separate lists that will just lead to more procrastination. Throughout the day I’ll take out my phone and jot down deadlines people will me to complete. Before I sleep, I’ll look back at my phone and plan my priorities out for the next day. I’ll design the list so that I accomplish all of my higher priority tasks in the morning. I’ve been doing this everyday, and it works.
Remember, if you don’t make a to-do list and follow through with it, it means nothing. It’ll go down as a forgotten thought along with the rest of your priorities you give up so you can watch T.V.
