Schedule some time to reflect back on your most awkward moments in life. When I was in High School, I would look back and laugh at all of the mistakes I made in middle school. Now that I’m in college, it’s time for me to reflect on all of the slip ups I made from grades 9-12. It’ll be interesting to look back and see what my old college fears were like as soon as I graduate.
Can you relate to any of these silly high school life slip ups? If not, then that’s awkward….
GETTING CALLED ON TO READ THE TEXTBOOK PAGE OUT LOUD
In High School I was the kid who didn’t participate a lot (if at all) and I kept to myself a lot. I am a person who keeps to myself a lot. In High School I didn’t spend all of class time talking with others so I observed. One of my anxieties in High School was being randomly called on by the Teacher to give an answer or read a passage in the textbook or an assignment we were all working on.
My high school life conscious during this scenario:
“Okay sweet I can just tune out and act like I’m reading with the group….”
“Oh wait, we’re doing this popcorn thing…no wait never mind I’m good….hold up is she using index cards to call on us?????” (I don’t remember writing our names on index cards…?)
“If the teacher calls on me what do I do…I have no idea where we are..”
…..
“Do I just get up and leave if that happens…?”
“Okay wait I think I know where we are *insert generic classmate name here* just read this last paragraph!!”
**Teacher calls on you “Jordan your turn…”
**reads the completely wrong passage out loud**
**solid 7 seconds of silence**
“Great now everyone is giving me a weird look and I thought I was reading the right page the entire time..”
TUNING OUT OF A MATH CLASS AND REALIZING THAT YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON
“Oh man just one more hour of class I can’t wait to go play some video gam-……….whoa what is going on right now????”
**looks at the whiteboard and is confused at whether he is in a foreign language class/science class/ or possibly neuroscience lab**
**looks around and everyone is writing in their notebook completely calm and understanding exactly what is going on….**
Okay cool well I guess I’m going to be teaching myself Math tonight for the homework due tomorrow!!
….Or I could ask a question so I could get caught up????

FORGETTING AN ASSIGNMENT AT HOME
~~On a pleasant drive to school….
“Wow I’m having such a great morning, I got to class on time..didn’t hit traffic at all on the way over here…school life is looking great right now.I was able to wake up early and finish up that annoying essay. Oh well, I’m just glad that it’s all wrapped up and over with…”
*Opens up backpack and see’s a depressing lack of bulky folders….*
“Ah I’m sure it’s just mixed in with all of my other notes…in my binder”
**Binder is nowhere to be found…*
*Teacher calls out that essays account for more than half of the final grade and if they’re not here today then they’re late and you can’t receive any credit*
AFRAID TO GET CALLED ON FOR YOUR ANSWERS
This could appear in either two different circumstances…
Scenario A:
- *thinks to himself* “I have a good feeling about this answer I’m going to volunteer!”
- *second guesses* “Wait, maybe this is a trick question, I’m the first one to solve this math problem but everyone else is still working…”
- *looks around confused*
- *raises up hand anyway*
*Teacher is about to call on you but then you put your hand down again because you’re unsure*
*some random person in the class intercepts you and says the answer you originally had*
Teacher: “Ah yes great work! Extra Credit for you!! Okay everyone let’s all take the time to appreciate the hard work and intelligence that *insert generic student name here* has humbly allowed to share with us today. Wow I’m going to contact the Principal right now so you can receive an award…not only were you the first one to answer the question, but you did so with so much confidence! Here you can have 20 dollars and an iTunes Gift Card all off of me! Your school life is amazing!
Scenario B:
- *thinks to himself* “I have a good feeling about this answer I’m going to volunteer!”
- *Raises hand first with a smile*
- *Confidently answers the question* “FOURTY TWO!”
- Teacher Responds with: “Um…no. You were off by 30…yeah I don’t know what you did wrong there…”
- Teacher Responds with: “Okay class…let’s all take the time to have an awkward silence because (you) didn’t answer the question right! Wow you were completely off…besides this was a trick question! This question shouldn’t have taken you that short amount of time to answer! Plus don’t you know it’s rude to volunteer immediately????
*class laughs*
*You question school life*
*You question the universe*
